Tigers come up short in Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Despite three Tigers scoring in double figures, including 20 from Tirrell Brown and 19 from Justin McCleary, the Tigers fell to Arkansas Tech, 85-73. This marks the first time this season the Tigers have lost two straight conference games.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead behind the hot shooting of Justin McCleary. McCleary scored 10 of the Tigers first 14 points on 4-4 shooting, including one from beyond the arc. Leading 14-4 with just over 15 minutes remaining in the half, the Tigers entered a shooting slump, making only two of their next 10 attempts.

A 7-0 run by the Wonder Boys cut the Tigers lead to three. A bucket inside by Tirrell Brown stopped the Tech run, giving Ouachita a 16-11 lead with 11:45 remaining in the half. Brown's up-and-under jump hook at the 7:09 mark ended another Tech run and tie the game at 20-20. The Wonder Boys regained the lead and with a made three with just over two minutes left in the half, extended their lead to 33-27.

After a timeout by head coach Dennis Nutt, the Tigers regrouped and closed out the half with a 6-0 run, Jordan Corbitt nailed a three with 42 seconds remaining in the half to tie the game, 34-34.

Arkansas Tech opened the second half with a 10-2 run. Carven Holcombe's lay in stopped a 7-0 run by the Wonder Boys, but Tech would hold on to the lead throughout the second half. The Tigers shot 42 percent in the second half, but just couldn't find answer defensively to stop a Tech team that shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half and 71 percent from beyond the arc.

Lakee Westbrook hit the Tigers only three in the second half. It came with 5:45 remaining and ended a 0-4 shooting run by the Tigers.  That shot cut the Tech lead to five, but the Wonder Boys responded with a run to go back up by 12. The Tigers fell by a final score of 85-73.

Tirrell Brown led the Tigers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Justin McCleary scored 19, shooting 50 percent from the floor. Lakee Westbrook finished with 10 points.
