Back-to-back homers not enough for Tigers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Despite back-to-back homeruns by Preston Speers and Victor Draijer in the fourth inning, the Ouachita Tigers dropped a midweek, non-conference game against the Central Baptist Mustangs. The Mustangs opened the game with a seven-run first inning and eventually defeated Ouachita 18-6.

After scoring seven runs in the first inning, Central Baptist College (8-0) added three in the second and three more in the third inning. The Tigers were held scoreless until the fourth inning, when Will Wallace started the rally with a single. Speers immediately followed with a two-run homer over the centerfield wall, and Draijer added his first homerun at Ouachita just four pitches later.

Ouachita (2-6) then added one run in each of the next three innings, coming on an RBI-single by Speers, a sacrifice fly by Jakahari Howell and a single up the middle by J.D. Speed.

The Mustangs added a run of their own in the top of the sixth, and then scored four runs in the eighth. After holding the Tigers scoreless, the game ended after eight innings of play.

Eight different pitchers spent time on the mound for Ouachita, including Brian Krikorian, Jacob May and Lance Cullum, who combined for three innings and zero runs allowed.

Offensively, Speers led the Tigers with two runs, three hits and three runs batted in. Wallace followed with two hits and one run scored. Speed and Chandler Blake both recorded their first career hits in the game.

The Tigers will return to conference play on Friday, as Ouachita travels to Russellville, Ark. to take on Arkansas Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
