Tigers drop two in Searcy

SEARCY, Ark. - Despite a combined 14 runs and 22 hits, the Ouachita Tigers dropped the first two games of the weekend series versus Harding University by finals of 15-12 and 16-2. Alex Jennings continued her hot hitting, going 3-6 on the day with 5 RBI and three runs scored.

In game one, the Tigers erased a 1-0 deficit when Kate Lacina doubled home Jennings to tie the game in the top of the third inning. Harding retook the lead in the bottom half with two runs of their own. The Tigers responded with a two-run top half of the fourth. Kelly Powell has a RBI single through the left side and Daniella Brantley scored the tying run off a sacrifice fly from Sarah Johnson

With the game tied 3-3, the Tigers offense exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth inning. Emily Acuna started the rally with a RBI single, giving the Tigers a one-run lead. With two outs and the bases loaded, Alex Jennings crushed a 0-1 pitch over the left field for a grand slam. Following back-to-back singles from Johnson and Lacina, Macy Nantz hit a three-run shot over the wall in center to give the Tigers an 11-3 lead.

Harding answered with nine runs in the bottom of the fifth and added three more in the bottom of the sixth to lead 15-11. Brantley hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh, but the Tigers rally would end there, falling by a final of 15-12.

In game two, the Tigers bats were quiet until the top of the fifth inning. Trailing 16-0, Alex Jennings drove in the Tigers first run on a double to center. Delaney Bono scored on the extra-base hit by Jennings after drawing a lead-off walk. Daniella Brantley singled through the left side of the infield to score Jennings to make it a 16-2 game. Sarah Johnson followed with her fourth hit of the day, but the Tigers attempt at a comeback ended in the next at bat.

The Tigers return to action tomorrow in Searcy. They'll face Harding in the final double header of the series. First pitch is set for noon.
