Lady Tigers come up short in season finale

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita women's basketball team finished the 2015-16 season with a loss on Saturday, falling to the Southwestern Oklahoma State Lady Bulldogs 72-60.

The Lady Tigers (10-18, 7-15 GAC) netted just 25 percent of their shots in the first half but only trailed the Lady Bulldogs by eight at halftime. Southwestern Oklahoma State (18-10, 14-8 ) knocked down 42 percent of its field goals, but the Lady Tigers forced 10 turnovers. Ouachita's bench outscored Southwestern Oklahoma State's bench 17-2 in the half.

Southwestern held a double-digit lead for much of the third quarter, but a 6-0 run by the Lady Tigers early in the fourth quarter pulled Ouachita within eight points. The score of 61-53 was the closest Ouachita came to tying the score in the final period, however, and the Lady Bulldogs took the 12-point victory.

The Lady Tigers struggled from the field in the second half, too, converting on just 30 percent of shots from the floor. Ouachita did grab 11 offensive rebounds in the half, however, to earn 11 second-chance points. The Lady Tigers also did not commit a turnover in the final 20 minutes.

For the game, Ouachita was led by Katie Kapler, who finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds to earn her third double-double of the season.
