ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -
Emily Acuna hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Ouachita Tigers a 5-4 win over Mississippi College.
Macy Nantz earned the win for Ouachita, striking out 12 batters in the complete game win.
Nantz opened the game for the Ouachita with nine strikeouts through the first three innings of play. Offensively, the Tigers had runners in scoring position through the first three, but could not get a run across. Mississippi College took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the fourth inning and scored three more in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0. Nantz held the Lady Choctaws scoreless in the top of the sixth, adding two more strikeouts to her total of 12 on the day.
Nantz doubled to left center to start the Tigers rally in the bottom of the sixth. After Nantz exited for a pinch runner,the Tigers scored their first run aftr a fielding error allowed
Alex Jennings to reach base.
Daniella Brantley followed with a double to move Jennings to third. KJ Keeley drove in both runners with her single to cut the Mississippi College lead to one.
The Lady Choctaws were held scoreless in the top half of the seventh inning. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Nantz hit her second double of the game, advancing
Kate Lacina to third.
Emily Acuna came to the plate and delivered her first hit of the game, a single to center to drive in the tying and winning runs. The Tigers won by a final of 5-4.
