CONWAY, Ark. - Behind Zach Gloff's first win of the season and Bo Sutton's first career save, the Ouachita Tigers defeated the Hendrix College Warriors, 3-1, on Tuesday. Victor Draijer led the Tigers with three hits, and Drew Feuerbacher added a team-high two runs batted in.
Gloff made his third start of the season for Ouachita (8-21), holding Hendrix (15-12) scoreless in the first inning. The Tigers then took the first lead of the contest when Feuerbacher singled to right field to score Austin White.
Kason Kimbrell replaced Gloff for the second inning and allowed one hit but no runs, preserving the 1-0 lead for the Tigers. In the top of the third, Draijer led off the inning with a homer over the left field wall, extending Ouachita's lead to 2-0. Jayme Lovelace then pitched the third inning for the Tigers, striking out two.
Hendrix cut the deficit to one run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, but the Warriors were caught stealing home to end the inning. Both the fifth and sixth innings were scoreless, as Jacob May and Brian Krikorian combined for two innings and just two hits allowed.
In the top of the second, Feuerbacher hit his first career homerun over the left field wall to give Ouachita a 3-1 advantage. Lance Cullum stopped the Warriors from scoring in the seventh inning, striking out three batters. Josh Reeves pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Ouachita, and Tryce Schalchlin and Bo Sutton combined for the final inning to secure the victory for the Tigers.
Ouachita recorded 12 hits in the game, the eighth game this season the Tigers have had at least 10 hits. The 10 pitchers for Ouachita combined for nine innings, one run allowed and nine strikeouts.
Ouachita baseball will return to Great American Conference play on Friday, April 1, when the Tigers travel to Alva, Okla. The Tigers will take on Northwestern Oklahoma State in a three-game series, beginning with a nine-inning game scheduled for 6 p.m.
