MONTICELLO, Ark. - After recording only three hits, the Ouachita Tigers lost a midweek contest to the University of Arkansas at Monticello Weevils, 5-1, on Wednesday.
Ouachita's only run of the nine-inning game came in the top of the sixth inning, when Justin Weigle scored Ty Owens on a sacrifice fly. Owens walked to lead off the inning and was later pushed to third on a single up the middle by Jakahari Howell.
Arkansas at Monticello (23-11) took the advantage early, scoring one run in the first inning and holding the lead for the next four innings. After the Tigers tied the score in the sixth, the Weevils answered with three runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth.
Jayme Lovelace started on the mound for Ouachita (11-26), but was replaced after the first inning. The Tigers used eight different pitchers in the loss, with Jacob May spending a team-high 1.2 innings on the mound.
Brian Krikorian, Zach Gloff, Jacob Knight, Tryce Schalchlin and Kason Kimbrell combined for five scoreless innings and only three hits allowed.
The Tigers will return to Great American Conference play on Friday, as Ouachita travels to Shawnee, Okla. to take on Oklahoma Baptist University. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
