ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers softball team came up short in both games of today's doubleheader with Oklahoma Baptist at Sully Anderson Field. The Tigers fell 10-7 in game one and were edged out by a run, 4-3 in game two. Seniors
Kailey Madden and
Suzie Gresham were honored in a special ceremony between games.
In game one, Oklahoma Baptist took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on two unearned runs. The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the inning with a four-run rally.
Kate Lacina led the inning of with a double and scored on an errant throw to first by the Oklahoma Baptist shortstop. Two batters later, with two on and no outs,
Emily Acuna homered to left center giving the Tigers the 4-2 lead.Â
A three-run double in the third allowed the Lady Bison to retake the lead, 5-4. A to-out RBI single in the top of the fifth increased their lead to 6-4. A four-run top of the sixth had the Tigers facing a six-run deficit heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Macy Nantz singled home
Paige Purifoy in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to five runs. With one out and one on in the bottom of the seventh,
Alex Jennings hit her sixth homerun of the year to make it a 10-7 game. The Tigers were unable to bring another run across and would fall in game one.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game two.
Macy Nantz hit a towering homerun to center, scoring
Kelly Powell, who led the game off with a single. The Tigers held their first inning lead through the third inning. In the top of the fourth, Oklahoma Baptist scored two to tie the game.Â
Oklahoma Baptist took a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth on a solo homerun and a RBI single. The Tigers entered the bottom of seventh own two. Powell led off the inning ith a double. Nantz followed with a double to left and driving in Powell to cut the lead to one with no outs. The Tigers were unable to bring home the tying run and they fell in game two by a final of 4-3.Â
The Tigers will travel to Bethany, Oklahoma next weekend to face Southern Nazarene University. The four-game series is set to begin on Friday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m.
