ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -
Macy Nantz and
Alex Jennings each hit three-run homers in the bottom of the seventh to erase and a five-run deficit and give the Ouachita Tigers softball team a 9-8 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers in the series finale. The Tigers were edged out by Northwestern in game one, 8-7.
The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead in game one when
Emily Acuna launched an opposite-field solo shot over the wall in right field. Acuna's second homerun of the season scored
Daniella Brantley, who led the inning off with a walk. The Rangers tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning and had the bases loaded with one out.
Kelsey O'Brien struck out the next two batters to work out the jam with the game tied.
Northwestern added two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. Ouachita's offense answered in the bottom of the inning with four runs to retake the lead. a one-out double by
Macy Nantz scored two runs to tie the game at 4-4.
Daniella Brantley followed with a two-run homer to right to put Ouachita up 6-4.
The Rangers scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take an 8-6 lead. Trailing by two in the bottom of the seventh, Nantz homered to right center, cutting the Northwestern lead to one. Despite getting two more runners on, the Tigers couldn't get them home. Ouachita fell in game by a final of 8-7. Nantz finished the game 4-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Brantley went 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Acuna's homerun accounted for the final two RBI for the Tigers.
Alex Jennings got the Tigers on the board in game two. The Tiger infielder homered to left to give Ouachita the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third,
Kelly Powell led the inning off with a double to right center.
Macy Nantz followed with double of her own to bring Powell home and put the Tigers on top, 2-1.
A two-out double in the top of the fourth scored the Rangers second run to tie the game. Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth inning. Northwestern scored three in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
Daniella Brantley hit her second homerun of the day on the bottom of the sixth to cut the Northwestern lead to 5-3, but the Rangers added three runs with two out in the top of the seventh.
Down 8-3, the Ouachita offense answered the challenge in the bottom of the seventh.
Gabby Gonzalez and
Delaney Bono led off the inning with back-to-back singles.
Macy Nantz crushed a 2-1 pitch over the wall in left to cut the lead to 8-6. With two outs,
Kate Lacina and Brantley singled to extend the Tiger rally.
Alex Jennings blasted a 1-2 pitch over the centerfield wall for her second homer of the day. The walk-off gave Ouachita the 9-8 win.
For the weekend,
Macy Nantz went 10-13 at the plate, She hit three home runs, four doubles, scored three runs and drove in eight. She hit .769 in the series and had a slugging percentage of 1.769.
