ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - In the final home game of the 2016 season, the Ouachita Tigers fell to the Texas A&M at Texarkana Eagles, 9-4.
Ouachita (15-31) started the scoring in the non-conference contest, after a two-out double from Will Wallace scored Justin Weigle from first. Texas A&M at Texarkana (28-16) answered, however, with a run in the top of the second after two walks and a hit by pitch.
The Eagles later took their first lead on a two-run home run in the top of the third. The Eagles maintained the lead for the rest of the contest, adding four runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh.
The Tigers crossed home plate in three consecutive innings, starting in the bottom of the fourth. Preston Speers reached base on an error and was later scored on an RBI-single by Will Hopkins. Wallace picked up his second run batted in of the game in the fifth, on a single to score Jakahari Howell. Then, in the sixth, Chandler Blake flied out to center field, allowing Speers to score from third.
Ouachita used nine different pitchers in the loss. Trey Hart, Zach Gloff, Josh Reeves and Lance Cullum highlighted the pitching, combined for four innings, five strikeouts and zero runs allowed. Wallace finished with a team-high two hits and two runs batted in.
The Tigers finish the regular season this weekend, as Ouachita travels across the street to take on rival Henderson State in a three-game, Great American Conference season. The Tigers will take on the Reddies, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
