ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers softball team closed out their 2016 season with two-game sweep of Central Baptist College. The Tigers defeated the Lady Mustangs 5-1 in game one and 7-5 in game two of the doubleheader at Sully Anderson Field. Ouachita went 12-10 in the final 22 games of the season to finish the year at 19-32.
In game one, starter
Kelsey O'Brien held Central Baptist scoreless through three innings while facing the minimum number of batters. She helped her own cause in the bottom of the third with a leadoff solo homerun to give Ouachita the 1-0 lead.
Kaylie Roberts and
Kelly Powell followed with singles to give the Tigers two on with no outs.
Macy Nantz doubled to right center, scoring Roberts and moving Powell to third.
After the first out of the inning,
Kate Lacina hit a RBI single up the middle to score Powell. Up 3-0, Nantz scored the fourth run of the inning when the Lady Mustangs caught Lacina in a pickoff attempt. The Tigers entered the fourth leading 4-0.
Central Baptist scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth. O'Brien scattered three hits over the final three innings with allowing another run to score. The Tigers tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead. For O'Brien, the complete game win improved her record to 9-9 this season. She struck out four and walked only one.
In game two, all seven of the Tigers runs came in the second inning.
Alex Jennings scored the first run of the inning off a bunt by
Emily Acuna.
Chelsea Wilson singled and
Kaylie Roberts tripled down the right field line to score Acuna and Wilson. Up 3-0,
Halley Ryburn singled through the left side to bring Roberts home for the fourth run of the inning. After a Kelley Powell Single,
Daniella Brantley hit a one-out double scoring Ryburn and Powell. A misplay by the CBC catcher allowed Brantley to score on the same play giving the Tigers 7-0 lead.
Starter
Marissa Butler earned her second win of the year after going five innings. She struck out five and allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits. O'Brien picked up her third save of the season with two innings of scoreless work.
