Madison Brittain scored 14 points and
Chasidee Owens added 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Ouachita Lady Tigers over Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee, Okla. by a final of 69-63. The victory marked the first road win of the season for Ouachita and snapped a six-game losing streak. With the victory, Ouachita improves to 8-11 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
Madison Brittain set the tone early for Ouachita by draining a three on the opening possession. 12 of the Lady Tigers first 13 points came from made three-pointers. Brittain hit two early and was joined by
Taylor Bowles and Madison Crosby.
Bria Caldwell hit Ouachita's fifth three of the opening quarter with just over three minutes to play to give the Lady Tigers an 18-15 lead. A pair of free throws by
Kori Bullard gave Ouachita a 22-19 lead at the end of the first.
In the second quarter, the Lady Tigers opened up a 10-0 run at the 8:12 mark. They held the Lady Bison scoreless for 6:24 seconds during the run. Bullard and
Chasidee Owens knocked down threes in the second quarter to give Ouachita seven in the first half. Shakyla Begnaud's layup with 1:17 to play in the half put Ouachita up 12 and they would lead 38-26 at the half.
In the third Ouachita held a double-digit lead for most of the quarter. A three-pointer by
Taylor Bowles with 4:28 to play kept the Lady Tigers up by 12. Oklahoma Baptist went on a 7-0 fun to get within five, but a pair of threes from Brittain and Bowles had Ouachita up by 10 heading into the final period of play.
In the fourth, the Lady Bison cut the Ouachita to lead to one thanks to an 11-2 run. Leading 56-55 with 3:22 to play, a
Katie Kapler steal led to two free throws by the post player and start a 6-0 run to quiet the Lady Bison rally. Brittain's steal and break-away layup with 2:47 to play put the game's momentum back in favor of Ouachita. The Ldy Tigers would hold the lead and win by a final od 69-63.
Ouachita return's home to Bill Vining Arena on Thursday, Sept. 2. The Lady Tigers will take on East central at 5:30 p.m.
