Late sack clinches road victory over SNU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' football team (5-2) defeated the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm (3-4) Thursday night by a final score of 21-14.

Ouachita's Drew Harris scored the game-winning touchdown when he caught a 67-yard pass from Austin Warford with 6:35 remaining.

Warford completed 15 of 24 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown. Harris led all receivers with five receptions for 98 yards. Harris also rushed five times for 19 yards and a touchdown. Ouachita running back Kris Oliver rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries.

Defensively, Ouachita did a stellar job to force two turnovers and hold Southern Nazarene to 234 total yards. The Storm had 122 rushing yards and 112 passing yards. Defensive back Tevin Jones led the Tigers with seven tackles while fellow defensive back Shaquille Hunter had five tackles and an interception.

Ouachita received the opening kick of the game, but was unable to score when they were stopped on fourth down while on the SNU 28-yard line. SNU took over and were able to get in the end zone on their first drive to open the scoring. Quarterback Jacob Spady capped off their nine-play, 72-yard drive with a 21-yard touchdown run.

Ouachita responded to the SNU touchdown on their next drive with a touchdown of their own. Austin Warford completed a 37-yard pass to Ladarius McElroy to put Ouachita on the four-yard line. Drew Harris punched the ball into the end zone at that point through the wildcat formation. The score tied the game at seven heading into the second quarter.

After trading possessions, SNU went on a long 12-play, 69-yard drive that ended in a nine-yard touchdown run from Spady.

Ouachita took over after the Storm touchdown with only 1:33 remaining in the first half, but were able to work the ball into field goal position where Cole Antley converted on a 42-yard field goal attempt which cut the SNU lead to four heading into the half.

After stopping SNU twice on defense to start the second half, the Tigers went on a run-heavy, 13-play drive which ended inside the SNU 10-yard line where Cole Antley converted on a 24-yard field goal to cut SNU's lead to one with over three minutes left in the third quarter.

As the game went into the fourth quarter, the Tigers were unable to score on multiple drives. Finally, with just under seven minutes remaining, Ouachita took over on their own 33-yard line. On the first play of the drive, Warford launched a 67-yard pass to Harris which gave the Tigers the lead. Warford ran in a two-point conversion to extend the lead to seven.

The Crimson Storm responded on their next drive by working their way into Ouachita territory. With about four minutes remaining, Ouachita defensive end Dameyun McDonald sacked SNU's Spady and forced a fumble which was recovered by Luke Holt to give Ouachita possession. Ouachita was able to run out the time remaining on the clock to clinch their victory.

Ouachita will play again next Saturday, October 21, at home against Oklahoma Baptist. Kick-off will be at 1 p.m.
