Loss at SWOSU stops win streak at three for Lady Tigers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Lady Tigers fell to the Lady Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State by a final of 79-70 on Thursday night in Weatherford, Okla. Despite the loss, the Lady Tigers remain in contention for one of three remaining GAC tournament spots. Madison Brittain led Ouachita with 16 points. Shakyla Begnaud scored 11 and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Chasidee Owens finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Brittain made three first quarter three-pointers to help give the Lady Tigers a 20-17 lead heading into the second. Alivia Huell scored all six of her first-half points in the opening quarter. Midway through the second quarter, the Lady Tigers opened an 8-0 run with three-pointers from Brittain and Hailee Crosby. A layup by Brittain gave Ouachita seven point advantage with 5:09 to play in the quarter. The lead increased to 11 after Kate Kapler found Morgan Miller on a back-door cut to put Ouachita up 39-28.Entering halftime, the Lady Tigers were up 39-32. 

After holding SWOSU to just 34 percent shooting from the floor in the first half, the Lady Bulldogs came out hot in the second half. They shot 50 percent from the floor and 54 percent from beyond the arc. The Lady Tigers had held their opponents to only two three-pointers in the first half. Offensively, Ouachita shot only 29 percent in the second half and made one three-pointer. A 6-0 run by SWOSU midway through the third quarter cut the Lady Tiger lead to three, 51-48. After two lead changes late, the teams entered the fourth tied at 55-55.

Back-to-back layups by Kapler and Begnaud gave Ouachita a 50-56 lead with 6:44 left to play in the game. A three-pointer from SWOSU tied the game at 62-62 with just over five minutes to play. The Lady Bulldogs went a on a 13-1 run and with 1:31 left to play held a 75-63 advantage. A late three by Kori Bullard and two layups by Owens would but the SWOSU lead to nine. The Lady Tigers fell by a final of 79-70.   

The Lady Tigers close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 25, in Alva, Okla. They tipoff against Northwestern Oklahoma State at 1:00 p.m.
