ARKADELPIHA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' baseball team (5-14) lost in a non-conference game to Henderson State (13-4) by a final score of 14-11.
The Tigers fell behind early to the Reddies, allowing six runs in the first four innings, but fought back at the end of the game with a four-run eighth inning and a run in the ninth to close the score. The effort was too little too late, however, and the Reddies hung on to win by three.
Justin Weigle had three hits, two RBI's, and a home run to lead the Tigers from the plate while freshman
Brandon Matros pitched four innings and struck out three batters.
Justin Weigle opened the game in favor of the Tigers, hitting a solo home run in the top of the first inning. However, the Reddies responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and then adding one run in the third and fourth innings respectively.
Aaron Studdard drove in two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Henderson responded once again with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 9-3. Ouachita scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut into the Reddie lead, but a grand-slam induced five-run seventh inning for the Reddies put the score at 14-6. The Tigers scored five runs in the last two innings, but it was not enough to usurp Henderson's lead.
The Tigers will play again on Tuesday, Mar. 7 against Texas A&M-Texarkana in Texarkana, Tex. The game will begin at 2 p.m.
