ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' baseball team rallied in the top of the tenth, scoring four runs to defeat Southwestern Oklahoma State by a final of 7-3 in Weatherford, Okla. The win improved the Tigers to 14-31 overall and 11-19 in the GAC.
Kyle Alexander went 2-5 in the game and drove in three runs.
Abe Young picked up the win in relief.
Down 1-0 to the Bulldogs in the top of the third, Jakahari Howell reached first on a leadoff walk.
Ty Owens reached on a bunt single, moving Howell to second.
Ryan Hammer followed and reached first on a throwing error by the pitcher. On the play, Owens advanced to second and Howell scored to tie the game at 1-1. Southwestern regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Down 2-1,
Kyle Alexander's one-out double in the top of the fifth scored Owens and
Justin Weigle, giving Ouachita a 3-2 lead.
The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out squeeze bunt. The game remained tied at the end of nine innings. In the tenth, Howell led the inning off with a double to center. He advanced to third on a fly out and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch. The Tigers added two more runs in the inning on RBI doubles from Alexander and
Preston Speers.
Austin White knocked in the fourth run of the inning with a RBI single.
Abe Young, who entered the game in relief in the seventh, stranded two Bulldog base runners in the bottom of the tenth to secure the win.
The Tigers travel to Russellville on Tuesday, April 25, to face Arkansas Tech and close out the regular season with a home series versus Henderson State on April 28-29.
