Tigers Send Out Seniors with a Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -  The Ouachita volleyball team locked up the No. 4 seed in the Great American Conference Tournament with the three set sweep of Arkansas Tech on Thursday evening.

Ouachita (22-8, 11-5 GAC) won every aspect of the game inside the Sturgis Physical Education Center. The Tigers recorded 14 more kills than the Golden Suns and recorded a .349 hitting percentage in the match.

A trio of Tigers ended the match in double-digit kills. Katie Camp (Plano, Texas) lead the team with 18 kills, junior Tabatha Huckabee (North Richland Hills, Texas) added 12 kills and Adrianna Nolly (Denton, Texas) contributed 11 kills to the match.

Senior setter Stormi Leonard (Decatur, Texas) once again had another 40 plus assist outing, Julianna Mack (Plano, Texas) lead the team with 15 digs, while Madison Wilson (Sanger, Texas) added 11 digs and Nikki Clay (Bentonville, Ark.) contributed 7 digs to the win.

In the opening set the two squads battled point-for-point until a tie at 22 all changed the momentum. Arkansas Tech (17-11, 10-6 GAC) went up a point after a kill by Hunter Eshnaur, the Tigers responded though with a kill by Nolly to the game at 23 all. Camp served up an ace to give the Tigers set point at 24-23, Nolly made sure that they would not need two as she hammered home her second kill in three points.

Ouachita ran away with the second set, racing out to an 11-3 lead in the opening moments of the set. The Golden Suns attempted to pull themselves back into the match by making it a 14-10 affair, but Ouachita responded with a 3-0 run to put the set out of reach. The Tigers went on to win the set 25-16.

In the third set Ouachita hit lights out recording a .536 hitting percentage in the set. The set was tightly competitive just like the initial opening set. Both teams had used at least one timeout by the 16 all mark in the set. Arkansas Tech called their second timeout down 21-20, the timeout worked in their favor as they scored the tying point. The Tigers then sent their seniors out in style by winning the final four points.

Ouachita will have about week off before they travel down the road to nearby Hot Springs for the Great American Conference Tournament. For all the latest news on the Ouachita volleyball game follow the official social media accounts of Ouachita athletics.
