Searcy, Ark. – For the second consecutive day a Ouachita athletic team has captured a Great American Conference Championship, today the men's soccer team defeated Harding 2-1 to clinch their second consecutive GAC title.
Ouachita took control of the game early as the Tiger offense attempted three corner kicks in the opening 20 minutes of play. In the 29
th minute of action,
Abraham Lazo (Irving, Texas) took a cross pass from the left side of the field from
Ryan Wilson and drilled the ball into the upper left corner of the net. It was the fifth goal of the season for Lazo as Ouachita broke the scoreless tie.
Ten minutes later
Hector Duron crossed the ball in from the left side of the field and
Matthew Wallak (Keller, Texas) headed the ball into the left corner of the net. The goal gave Wallak his third goal of the season and it gave Ouachita a commanding 2-0 lead over Harding. The Tigers outshot the Bisons 6-5 in the opening half of play.
In the second half, Harding felt the pressure as their offense racked up the shot attempts in the final half of play. The Bisons outshot the Tigers 14-4 down the stretch but only one of the shots got away from the mitts of Ouachita goalie
Matt Gutierrez (Houston, Texas). Gutierrez ended the game with two saves and ended the tournament with 13 saves.
