Tigers Looking to Stay Perfect

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – When the No. 4 Ouachita Tiger football team walks across the street tomorrow to face Henderson State in the 92nd edition of the Battle of the Ravine, the Tigers will be looking to finish the season perfect for just the second time in school history.

Ouachita (10-0) will be looking to have their first three game winning streak in the series since the 2001-2003 football season. With a win on Saturday the Tigers will tie up the all-time series at 43 games each. Last season, Ouachita defeated Henderson State 49-42 behind a 7 touchdown performance from Drew Harris (Benton, Ark.).

The Tigers are coming off a 35-10 victory against Southern Arkansas. The victory gave the Tigers their second consecutive Great American Conference Championship and the Tigers fourth GAC Championship in the past eight seasons. A win on Saturday would give Ouachita their second undefeated regular season in school history and it would set a program record for wins in a season with 11.

Ouachita is led by one of the most formidable defenses in the country. The Tigers have outscored opponents 344-96 this season. Ouachita has the number one scoring defense in the country, allowing opponents just 9.6 points per contest. It's been almost a month since the Tigers last gave up multiple touchdowns in a game. The Tigers currently rank third in the nation in turnover margin and interceptions with 17. Keandre Evans (Junction City, Ark.) currently leads the stout secondary with 4 interceptions and
11 pass breakups. Senior linebacker Airric Parker (San Diego, Calif.) is the top tackler for the Tigers with 45.5 stops.

On the offensive side of the ball the Tigers bring in a top-10 nationally ranked rushing offense averaging 278 yards per contest. Ouachita now has four running backs that have at least 400-yards rushing. Junior running back Shun'cee Thomas (Bossier City, La.) has rushed for 274 yards and three touchdowns in the past two games. Senior running back Kris Oliver (Arkadelphia, Ark.) is inching closer to the thousand-yard marker of the season and currently sits at 825 rushing yards. Brockton Brown (Sheridan, Ark.) currently leads the backfield with 12 touchdowns on the season.

Brayden Brazeal (England, Ark.) is proven to be an efficient signal caller throughout his rookie season for the Tigers. Brazeal has completed 63 percent of his passes for 988 yards this year. The redshirt freshman also has five touchdowns through the air and only one interception to show for it. The Natural State native also showed off his speed this season, scrambling for 411 yards and an additional five scores.

In the receiving corps, Allie Freeman (Little Rock, Ark.) and La'Darius McElroy (Ashdown, Ark.) have been a constant outlet for Brazeal this season. Both receivers have a pair of touchdown catches on the season. Freeman has the slight edge however in receptions (39) and yards gained (411).

Henderson State is coming off a 24-17 loss at home to the University of Arkansas-Monticello. Since the start of last season, Henderson State has gone just 3-7 on their home turf. Over that same time span Ouachita has accumulated a 9-1 record in away games.

Henderson State quarterback Richard Stammetti has thrown for 2,256 yards and 17 touchdowns. The junior quarterback has also been picked off on nine different occasions. Stammetti has had four games this season with at least 300 yards passing. Logan Moragne leads the backfield in rushing with 688 net yards earned this season. Stammetti's favorite target to throw to on the outside is Ben Johnson. Johnson currently leads the Reddies with 61 receptions for 677 yards and four scores.

On the defensive side of the ball Cameron Sonnier leads the defense with 87 total tackles and 12 tackles for a loss. Malik Brown is the leader of the secondary with 55 tackles, 4 interceptions, 5 break ups and 9 passes defended.

Regardless of stats and records when these two teams meet you are not going to want to miss it. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. but pregame festivities on Ouachita's side of the street will begin at 10 a.m. The Tiger radio network will hit the airwaves at noon central time.
