Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – A few weeks ago it was Henderson State celebrating on Ouachita's home court, tonight it was the Tigers celebrating an 87-81 victory over the Reddies.
The Tigers used a 54-point second half and a 51 percent second half field goal percentage to pull away from Henderson State. The Tigers defense locked down the Reddies offense and forced the Reddies to just 38 percent shooting from the field in the second half.
Mahlon Martin (Little Rock, Ark.) received a pass from Wesley Franklin (Frisco, Texas) on the right side of the court and drained the three-point basket for the first points of the game for either team.
That appeared to be just the beginning for the Tigers offense as they exploded out to a 12-3 advantage with 16:43 to play in the first half. Martin had half of the Tigers points during the run.
Josh Jones scored the initial bucket for the Reddies and then Henderson State went almost five minutes of game time before Kaylon Tappin swished in a three-pointer. The basket started a 7-0 run for Henderson State as Ouachita went four minutes of game time without a bucket.
The game was back-and-forth between the two squads the rest of the half. The game was tied on four different occasions and Henderson State took their first lead of the game at the 4:59 mark.
The Reddies then stormed ahead with a 7-0 run and led 36-29 with 2:07 to go in the half. The Reddies ended the half by going 5-for-6 from the field to go up 40-33 at halftime.
The Tigers defense keyed in on Kaylon Tappin as they forced the senior guard to just 1-of-7 shooting from the field in the first half.
Ouachita shot almost even for the half with a 47 percent field goal percentage. Unfortunately, for the Tigers they were just 3-for-12 from beyond the three-point arch in the first half. Henderson State on the other hand, finished 6-for-11 from beyond the arch to take the advantage.
Henderson State scored the initial bucket of the first half, but then the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to the game at 42 with 16:56 in the game.
The Reddies countered the Tigers run with a 12-6 run to pull ahead with 12 minutes left in the game. The Tigers had another scoring drought that lasted about three minutes and helped the Reddies hold on to a 54-48 advantage with 10:54 remaining in the game.

Jontavis Willis (Strong, Ark.) knock down an open three-pointer to pull the Tigers within a point of the Reddies, moments later Trey Harris added a three-point bucket to give the Tigers a 56-54 advantage.
Ouachita's defense began to reappear as the Reddies went over five minutes without scoring a bucket, during that stretch the Tigers had went on an 8-0 run.
The Tigers led 69-63 with 3:31 remaining in the game, The Tigers defense had stalled out the Reddies offense as they capped off an 8-0 run in the final moments of the game.
Henderson State did not score a basket in four of the final five minutes of game time as Ouachita increased their advantage to double figures.
Henderson State then began a furious rally in the closing moments of the game and closed within four points of the Tigers. Ouachita successfully shot free throws the rest of the way to close out the game and to pick up their third consecutive victory.
???????Tappin sat for the majority of the second half as the senior guard struggled from the field going 2-for-11 on the night.
Martin finished with 24 points on the night for the Tigers, Smith added 15 points and Isaiah Harper (Little Rock, Ark.) contributed 11 points in the victory.
The Tigers will take on Arkansas Tech on Thursday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
