ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita volleyball team is holding their Great American Conference home opener against Southern Arkansas tomorrow evening at 6 p.m.
Ouachita (10-3, 1-0 GAC) is coming off a long challenging week that saw the Tigers play five games in seven days. The Tigers kicked-off the week by defeating Arkansas-Monticello in straight sets 25-18, 25-12 and 25-6. Ouachita hit .321 for the match, while the Cotton Blossoms found themselves in the negatives.
Then the Tigers traveled up to the Sunflower State and battled a quartet of opponents from Thursday to Saturday afternoon. Although, Ouachita did not have a great outcome in the tournament the Tigers still came away with a sweep against Newman University. Junior
Katie Camp (Plano, Texas) was named to the All-Tournament team after a 46 kill, 42 dig weekend. Camp recorded her first career double-double (kills-digs) against Newman University. The Lone Star Native also reset her career high in kills with 16 against both Newman and Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Ouachita currently sits in a four-way tie for first place in the Great American Conference standings. Based upon percentage points the Tigers are second behind Southwestern Oklahoma State. Southern Arkansas (3-8, 0-1 GAC) on the other hand sits in 10
th place right above Arkansas-Monticello and East Central.
The Muleriders are currently riding a seven match losing streak and have failed to win a single set in six consecutive matches. Southern Arkansas' last win came on August 25, against Mississippi College in their opening week tournament. The Muleriders have been on the road for seven straight matches and will finally get to play a home match against Henderson State on Thursday evening.
Key players on the Ouachita side to look out for besides Camp are,
Adrianna Nolly (Denton, Texas),
Stormi Leonard (Decatur, Texas) and
Julianna Mack (Little Rock, Ark.).
Nolly is currently tops in the conference with a .440 hitting percentage, that mark places her 13
th overall in the nation. Nolly also holds the top spot in the GAC for total kills (139), kills per set (3.76), total blocks (41), total points (173) and points per set (4.68).
Leonard is making her move towards being one of the All-Time great setters in the Great American Conference. The Lone Star native is currently tops in the conference with 9.88 assists per set and leads the conference in total assists with 478. The mark of 478 assists also places the Decatur native fourth overall in the country. Leonard is just 238 assists away from breaking the GAC career record.
Mack has put on quite the show for the Tigers defense. The Little Rock native is currently third in the GAC with 194 digs and has recorded double-digit digs in 11 consecutive matches.
Ouachita has currently won four consecutive matches dating back to the 2015 season. Current Ouachita assistant coach
Alli O'Banion played at Southern Arkansas the past four seasons and gave the Tigers defense fits over that time frame. Thankfully, she is now using her talents to help the Tigers offense become one of the best in the nation.

Alli O'Banion, the Tigers appear in the national top-30 in six different statistical categories. Ouachita is currently ranked 29
th in the nation in team digs with 712, the Tigers rank 25
th in team hitting percentage with a .248 clip and 24
th in the nation in total blocks with 86. Ouachita is also 20
th in total attacks (1,605), the Tigers are sixth in the country with 605 team kills and they rank fifth in the country with 569 team assists.
With a victory on Tuesday night Frizzell-Kizer will have the most wins by a first year head coach in school history during the Division II era.
