Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Strong Offensive Showing by Women’s Soccer in Week One

SEARCY, Ark. – This weekend the Ouachita Tiger women's soccer team participated in the MIAA/GAC challenge and went 1-1-0 against Missouri Western State and Emporia State.

The Ouachita (1-1-0) offense came out firing on all cylinders as they out-shot their opponents by a combined clip of 33-25.

Due to inclement weather in Searcy on Friday afternoon, the women's soccer team actually had the opportunity to play their first match of the season on their home tough in Arkadelphia. The Tigers did not disappoint in front of a home friendly crowd. Ouachita pummeled Missouri Western State on a hot and humid Friday afternoon, 4-0.

Carmen Scott (Garland, Texas) started-off the scoring for the Tigers offense in the seventh minute of action. Scott took a through pass from senior forward Bryson Thomas (Hurst, Texas) and booted the ball into the back of the net. A few minutes later Thomas added, a goal of her own with a shot from 12-yards out that found the lower right corner.

The Tigers went into halftime with a 2-0 advantage. It did not take long for the Tigers to score their third goal of the game, as Jamie Fowler (Mesquite, Texas) took a cross pass from Ashlyn Heckman (Frisco, Texas) and blasted the ball past the goalkeeper. Jaymee Dotson (Princeton, Texas) picked up the Tigers final score of the game in the 86th minute.

The defense and goalie Erin Webster (Alvin, Texas) stood strong as they complete the shutout. Webster finished the contest with six saves.

In the second game of the weekend, Ouachita faced-off against Emporia State. The offensive tried their best to keep the Tigers in the match. Unfortunately, it was one of those
games in which the ball could not find the back of the net. Ouachita out-shot their opponent 14-12, had more shots on goal 8-6 and more corner kicks 8-2.

Two first half goals was all it took for Emporia State as they defeated the Tigers by a final score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Ouachita women's soccer team will be back in action on Friday afternoon against Northeastern State. Be sure to follow all the latest athletic news on www.obutigers.com.
