Volleyball Looks to Stay Perfect with Trip to Monticello

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For the first time in ever the Ouachita volleyball team will open up Great American Conference play with an undefeated record; as they travel to Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday night for the conference opener.

Ouachita (8-0, 0-0) is currently riding a six game winning streak against Arkansas-Monticello (1-7, 0-0) dating back to the 2015 season. The Tigers are coming off another perfect weekend after they defeated Dallas Baptist, Southwest Baptist, Union and Mississippi College in the Reddie-Tiger Challenge. Meanwhile, the Cotton Blossoms have failed to win a set in four consecutive matches.

Middle, Adrianna Nolly (Denton, Texas) and setter Stormi Leonard (Decatur, Texas) have become a very formidable tandem. Both were named to the Reddie-Tiger Challenge Tournament Team for their efforts.

Nolly, through two weeks of action is hitting .467 and has already racked up 121 kills and 34 blocks. The junior middle also crossed the 600 career kills threshold this past weekend as she averaged 17.75 kills over the four match span. Nolly also set a new Great American Conference single game record against Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The Lone Star State native posted an .864 hitting percentage following a 19 kill performance against the Bearcats. Nolly, was named the GAC player of the week to open up the season after a 50 kill, 20 block weekend at the University of Alabama-Huntsville Tournament.

Leonard, thus far, has accumulated 311 assists this season and is averaging just over 10 assists per set. Leonard, is also tied for second on the team with 56 assists. The Lone Star State senior is currently closing in on the Great American Conference career record for assists and has already posted a trio of double-doubles (assists-digs) this season.

Behind Nolly on the offensive attack is junior Tabatha Huckabee (North Richland Hills, Texas) who has tallied 66 kills and 15 blocks this season. Junior Katie Camp (Plano, Texas) and freshman Emily Low (Austin, Texas) sit third on the team with 59 total kills.

Shifting to the defensive side of the court for the Tigers, sophomore Julianna Mack (Little Rock, Ark.) currently leads the team with 115 digs. Right behind Mack is senior Nikki Clay (Bryant, Ark.) and freshman Hannah Johnston who each have 56 and 55 digs respectively.

Entering Tuesday nights matchup with Arkansas-Monticello the Tigers have opened the season with the schools second longest winning streak. The longest came back during the 2010 season when the Tigers won 11-straight contests before falling to Arkansas Tech on the road.

The Tigers went 2-0 against the Cotton Blossoms last season. Nolly and Paige Williams (Springdale, Ark.) led the offensive charge last year. Nolly finished with 26 kills and four blocks, while Williams posted a double-double (kills-digs) in the first contest of last year. Williams against Arkansas-Monticello recorded 24 kills and 33 digs in the two regular season matchups. Leonard totaled 84 assists against the Cotton Blossoms, including a 50 assist match in the first meeting last season.

The Cotton Blossoms offense was never able to get anything going against the Tigers last season, as they finished with a hitting percentage less than .100 in both contests.
