ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Tigers use a strong team effort to defeat Philander Smith 69-60 in an exhibition at Bill Vining Arena.
Jacob Street led the Tigers on the night scoring 19 points and adding six rebounds. He played 23 minutes for Ouachita connecting on six of seven shots. He was perfect from the three point line and shared the rock recording three assists.
Kendarious Smith did a little bit of everything in the win. He put in 12 points and three rebounds but showed out on the defensive end cranking out two steals and two blocks.
Eric Brown also had a nice game for the Tigers with 11 points and four rebounds.
Ouachita saw three new faces for the Tigers as
Larenz Nero and
Leon Kalinic both started for the Tigers with Nero scoring eight adding in two steals. Freshman
Xavier Hall came in off of the bench and nailed a three pointer for his three points.
The Tigers defense played the foes from Little Rock stingy in the matchup forcing them into missing 40 of their 63 shots. The Tigers forced 13 tournovers in the game and recorded five blocks. Ouachita's largest lead of the game was 14 which they reached at the 15:39 mark of the second half on a
Jacob Street Fastbreak layup.
Friday, Nov. 8 will be the official start of the Tigers season as they travel to Searcy, Ark. to face off in the Big Red Classic. On the 8
th they will take on St. Cloud State University at 2:30 PM, and on Saturday, Nov. 9 they will battle Minot State University.
