ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University football team has been awarded 18 All-Great American Conference selections, and head coach
Todd Knight has been named the league's coach of the year.
Of the league-best 18 All-GAC selections, one is senior
Allie Freeman, who was selected as a First Team All-GAC receiver as well as a first team pick as a return specialist.
Joining Freeman on the All-GAC First Team from Ouachita are senior running back
Brockton Brown, senior center
Jacob Roberts, senior lineman
Cori Gooseberry, sophomore lineman
Anthony Chairez, junior defensive end
Dameyun McDonald, and senior cornerback
Keandre Evans. Gooseberry was one of three unanimous first team selections.
Ouachita's second team selections are senior defensive end
LaFoy Smith, junior defensive tackle
Shimorye Hampton, and senior
Jake Ford, who made the second team as a specialist and the honorable mention team as a punter.
In addition to Ford, the Tigers had six others selected as honorable mentions – sophomore quarterback
Brayden Brazeal, sophomore tight end
Hunter Swoboda, senior defensive tackle
Zach Curry, junior linebacker
Austin Guymon, junior safety
Jonathan Harris, and freshman kicker
Gabe Goodman.
Knight has now been crowned GAC Coach of the Year for three consecutive seasons and five times overall in the nine-year history of the league. Knight owns GAC records for total wins (76) and conference wins (72). This year, Knight has led the Tigers to their third undefeated regular season and fourth NCAA playoff berth.
Allie Freeman is now a four-time All-GAC honoree throughout his Ouachita career. The Little Rock native has set the GAC record this season in receptions, heading into this weekend's playoff game with 86 for 869 yards and seven touchdowns. As a returner, Freeman averages just under nine yards per punt return and just under 24 yards per kickoff return.
Also earning all-conference honors for multiple seasons include now three-time honorees
Cori Gooseberry and
Keandre Evans, and now two-time honorees
Brockton Brown,
Jacob Roberts, and
Dameyun McDonald.
The Tigers put their undefeated 11-0 record to the test this Saturday at home against Lindenwood in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Cliff Harris Stadium.
