ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Tigers show their roar taking down the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns in five sets at Sturgis Physical Education Center.
Ouachita started the match against ATU hot winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20. In the second set the Tigers offense showed out recording 16 kills and only three errors. After dropping two sets in a row the Tigers let the Golden Suns break out to a 4-0 lead in the fifth set. The Tigers fought back going on a 9-3 run to take the lead and eventually close out the game with a score of 15-13.
Senior
Katie Camp led the Tigers early recording 12 kills in the first two sets. She added another double-double ending the game with 15 kills and 12 digs.
Emily Low had a great game for the Tigers with 11 kills and two blocks. In the fifth set comeback the middle had two huge service aces.
The trio of
Tabatha Huckabee,
Rileigh Fielder and
Abby Cagle all put in seven kills for Ouachita. Fielder put the game away for the Tigers with a kill in the fifth set.
Lexie Castillow continued her stellar season with 31 digs in the match for Ouachita.
Temi Fayiga put in 29 assists and eight digs while her setting counterpart
Joni Schneider had 13 assists and seven digs. The two Tigers defensive specialist
Shannon Hogan and
Julianna Mack combined for 14 digs.
The Tigers started off the match on fire going on a 9-2 run led by Camp's three kills. They extended the lead to 20-13 on back to back kills from Cagle. Two service errors by the Golden Suns gave the Tigers the set one victory at 25-21. In the second set Ouachita used a 10-1 run to take a 17-11 lead over Arkansas Tech. Camp recorded half of the Tigers points on the run with big kills in the set. After the Tigers allowed a run by ATU they closed the game out on a 3-0 run capped off by a Huckabee kill.
The Tigers went down early in the fifth set after dropping the third and fourth frames. Arkansas Tech jumped out to a 7-4 lead before Ouachita clawed back.
Emily Low led the Tigers 4-0 run with two service aces. Kills by Low, Camp and Fielder closed out the game for Ouachita capturing the Tigers victory.
The Tigers will now prepare to travel to Southern Arkansas next Tuesday before closing out the year against Arkansas-Monticello for senior night at Sturgis Physical Education Center.
