Weekend Review: Baseball vs. Union (Tenn.)

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The first weekend of the 2019 Ouachita Tiger Baseball season is in the book as the Tigers finish their final game in a heart breaking loss to Union (Tenn.).

Brandon Matros started on the mound for the Tigers in the final game of the weekend against Union (Tenn.). The Tigers would start the first two innings of the game locking down defensively on the diamond not allowing anything to cross the plate.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Tigers would allow the Bulldogs to plate two runs to take a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 3rd. Aaron Studdard would use a walk to get on base; however, the Tigers would not be able to bring him home.

Matros would pitch five innings only allowing seven hits and striking out three batters. In relief, Noah Fowler made his season debut for the Tigers as he would come in to pitch in the top of the 6th.

The Tiger would put a runner back on base in the bottom of the 6th as Studdard walked for the second time in the game. A fly out and ground out would thwart the Tigers chances to take the lead.

Union would add a run in the top of the seventh inning.  Bo Sutton would answer the call in the bottom of the seventh with a single. However, Sutton would be thrown out trying steal second to end the inning.

In the eighth and ninth innings Fowler would shut down the Bulldogs. Louis Steen in the bottom half of the eight would single and Hunter Gautreaux would single in the ninth, but the Tigers would fall to Union 3-0.

The Tigers will return to action at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday February 7 as they face off against Missouri Western State University for the first home game of the season at Rab Rodgers Field.
