ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Baptist Tiger's Baseball uses ninth inning poise to defeat Missouri Western State 4-3.
Bo Sutton's pinch hit single tied the game in the bottom of the ninth scoring
Louis Steen from second base. A few batters later
Tyler Riebock with two outs walked to score the game winning run.
Luke Scaggs drew the start for the Tigers as the sophomore looked to continue to build upon his opening day start. He came out hot striking out two of his first three batters. In the bottom of the first Ouachita used Missouri Western's mistakes to score runs. After three walks,
Hunter Gautreaux used a fielder's choice and error to help the Tigers get two across the board. The top of the second saw Scaggs strike out two more while in the bottom half
Chris Willard stole his first base of the year but the Tigers could not score him.
In the top of the third the Griffons scored a run; however,
Luke Scaggs struck out three more batters to put his total at seven. The Tigers could not get anything going in the bottom half of the inning. The top of the fourth gave Scaggs two more strikeouts, and the bottom half was three up and three down for Ouachita. The fifth inning saw Scaggs pick up strikeout number 10 on the day, and in the bottom half
Chris Willard hit a double but was left stranded on second.
In the top of the sixth the Griffons tied the game and then took the lead on two doubles. The Tigers made a pitching change, bringing in
Noah Fowler to replace Scaggs who finished with 10 strikeouts allowing three runs on four hits. The bottom of the sixth and the seventh innings did not see any action for either teams as the pitchers were in the zone. After a lock down top of the eight, the Tigers would get two on base in the bottom of the inning. However, two strikeouts would take the game into the final inning.
Fowler made quick work out of the top of the inning striking out a batter in the process. In the bottom of the ninth
Louis Steen led off for the Tigers with a walk.
Logan Huneycutt the next batter would reach first after being hit by the ball. With runners on first and second,
Bo Sutton pinch hit for
Kade Stuart. After falling behind in the count 0-2, Sutton would lace a single into right field scoring Steen from second.
Chris Willard would advance Sutton to second on a ground ball to third leaving two runners in scoring position. After and intentional walk of
Aaron Studdard,
Tyler Riebock would draw a two out walk to win the game.
The Tigers move to 2-3 on the season and will return to action Saturday as they face off with Northwest Missouri at 1:00 PM at Rab Rodger Field.
