Tigers Softball are in the Hunt

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Softball takes the last two games in the University of Arkansas Monticello series with finals of 3-1 and 7-4.
 
In game one Marissa Butler took the mound for the Tigers and continued her dominant season. She went seven innings only allowing five hits and one earned run striking out eight batters in the process.
 
The Tigers started their attack in the second inning as Jillian Jones singled down the right field line. Stephanie McCann pinch ran for Jones and stole second base during the next at bat. After a Leighton Withers walk, McCann stole third base and scored on the errant throw by the catcher giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Blossoms would tie the game on a solo homerun in the top of the sixth.
 
In the sixth inning the Tigers looked to capture and secure the win. Kyndal Moyer, who went 3-3 in the first game, led the Tigers off with a single up the middle. Kelsey O'Brien pinch-hit singling to right field putting runners on first and second. Macy Wilson pushed the runners into scoring positions with a sacrifice bunt and Jillian Jones was intentionally walk. With the bases loaded and two outs Leighton Withers would single home Moyer and O'Brien giving the Tigers enough to win game one.
 
In game two the Tigers started the bottom of the fourth with a Jillian Jones double dow the left field line. Stephanie McCann pinch-ran for Jones and advance to third on a fly out by Leighton Withers. She scored after Kelsey O'Brien singled down the left field line. The score at the end of the fourth sat at Blossoms two and Tigers one.
 
In the bottom of the sixth the Tigers secured seven hits and six runs. Leighton Withers started the inning with a walk which was followed up by a Kelsey O'Brien single to the third basemen. Tobi Finley followed that up with a pinch-hit single up the middle scoring Withers from second. Sarah Tuller pinch ran for O'Brien at second as Samantha Ortiz pinch-hit for the Tigers. Ortiz sent a ball back up the middle scoring Tuller from second. Madison Miller continued the Tigers success by singling to left field scoring both runners on base. Callie Jourdan singled to second base scoring Miller on the next play. Kyndal Moyre would reach on a fielder's choice and Macy Wilson singled to the shortstop to put runners on first and second. Leighton Withers singled to right field to score Moyer from second and give the Tigers a 7-2 lead.
 
The Tigers move to sixth in the GAC standings and look to secure their place in the Great American Conference Tournament. The Tigers travel to Russellville, Ark. to take on Arkansas Tech to close out the regular season.
