RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Ouachita Softball falls in two battles with Arkansas Tech, but they still clinch their berth to the Great American Conference Tournament.
Senior
Marissa Butler in her last regular season game of her career brought her best stuff. She went seven innings on the day only allowing two hits and one run striking out five in the process. However, the one run was the winning run for Arkansas Tech. Butler will now prepare for a first round matchup with Southern Arkansas who captured the one seed in the Great American Conference Tournament.Â
At the plate the Tigers recorded three hits by
Natalie Jackson,
Tobi Finley and
Kyndal Moyer. The Tigers put each of those three into scoring position, but could not drive them home as they fell to Arkansas Tech on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning.Â
The second game the bats picked up for the Tigers who secured eight hits in the game. In the first inning
Kyndal Moyer singled and then stole second base, but she was thrown out at home trying to score on a
Tobi Finley single. This led to
Jillian Jones two batters later sending a bomb over the left field fence giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
Mabry Smith took the mound for the Tigers three innings only giving up three runs before
Marissa Butler closed out the game giving up three hits in three innings.Â
Callie Jourdan went 2-3 for the Tigers on the day as they also received production from
Tobi Finley who hit 3-4 from the plate. In the top of the seventh inning the Tigers were down 4-2.
Callie Jourdan hit a two out single down the left field line.
Kyndal Moyer was hit by a pitch before
Tobi Finley beat out an infield single sliding into first base.
Jillian Jones would ground into a fielder's choice which scored Jourdan from third base. With the bases loaded and two outs the Tigers could not score another run falling to Arkansas Tech with a score of 4-3.Â
The Tigers will turn now to the GAC Tournament starting on Wednesday. Interim Head Coach Leslie Dean and the Tigers finish the regular season with a record of 21-32 going 19-24 in GAC play.Â
