WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Paul Sharp Trophy is brought back to Arkadelphia for the fourth straight season as Ouachita Football defeats Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a final of 26-21.
The Tigers used a strong fourth quarter to secure the victory over the Bulldogs. After going down 21-20 with 11:42 left in the game, Ouachita locked down the rest of the game taking the win. Starting from their own 29 yard line the Tigers would march down the field.
Justin Dean caught his first career touchdown pass reeling in a 28 yard strike from
Brayden Brazeal to give Ouachita the 26-21 lead. The Tigers went for two, but the pass was intercepted.
The Bulldogs were forced to start their drive from their 25 with 7:02 left in the game. Ouachita's defense locked down the SWOSU offense forcing a three in out and a punt with 5:10 left in the game.
Shun'cee Thomas then took over for the Tigers as he rushed four straight times taking the Tigers from their own 41 to the Bulldog 40. Ouachita converted on two vital third downs on the drive to run the clock out winning their 20
th straight GAC contest.
Shun'cee Thomas led the Tigers on the ground with 102 of Ouachita's 259 yards.
TJ Cole would add 52 yards while
Brockton Brown had 45 and a touchdown.
Brayden Brazeal continued his accurate season going 13-19 for 141 yards and two touchdowns. He also helped the Tigers with his legs rushing 10 times for 67 yards.
The Tigers spread the receptions around as six Tigers caught passes.
Allie Freeman led all Tigers with seven receptions for 49 yards. Freshman
Keemontrae McKnight recorded his first career touchdown on a 25 yard reception in the second quarter.
Jonathan Harris led the Tigers on defense recording six tackles (4 Solo, 2 Ast).
Hunter White tallied five, one of which was for a loss.
Jon Johnson,
Austin Guymon and
Dameyun McDonald each had five tackles, and the Tigers forced an interception which was picked off by
Tommy Crumpton III.
Ouachita scored first in the game in the first quarter on a three yard rush by Brown before the Bulldogs tied it up on the next drive. The Tigers used the McKnight touchdown reception to take the 14-7 lead. After the Bulldogs tied it back up freshman
Gabe Goodman connected on a 43 yard field goal to give the Tigers a 17-14 lead at the half.
In the third the only points put on the board were by
Gabe Goodman on a 33 yard field goal. The Tigers then closed out the fourth quarter pushing their record to 4-0 on the season and taking sole possession of first place in the Great American Conference.
Jake Ford led the Tigers on special teams with two booming punts averaging 52 yards. He placed one inside the 20 with his longest being 66 yards. He also had six kickoffs averaging 64.2 yards per kick.
The Tigers return to Cliff Harris Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 5 for Homecoming against Southeastern Oklahoma State University at 12:00 p.m.!
