Volleyball Knocks off Ranked Team in Thriller

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Volleyball knocked off the 20th ranked Texas A&M Commerce Lions in five sets before dropping the last game of the Reddie-Tiger Challege to the St. Edwards Hilltoppers 3-1.
 
Middle Emily Low had a stellar day leading the Tigers with a combined 24 kills in two games. During the matchup against the Lions Low accounted for 15 kills, eight blocks and 21.0 total points. She continued her success against St. Edwards as she tallied nine kills on 15 attempts.
 
Senior Adri Nolly continued her strong opening weekend adding her fourth consecutive game of 10 or more kills. In the first contest of the day Nolly showed off her versatility as she not only secured 12 kills but also added five digs, two assists and two blocks. Against the Hilltoppers, the senior led the team in points with 13.5 from 11 kills, 2 blocks and an ace.
 
The Tigers saw their first double-doubles of the season today from Katie Camp, Joni Schneider and Temi Fayiga. Camp was all over the court in the match against the Lions racking in 12 kills and 22 digs. Schneider, a freshman setter, accounted for 10 digs and assisted on 24 kills the biggest being the game winner against Texas A&M Commerce. With 26 assists and 11 digs against St. Edwards, Fayiga also joined the double-double club.
 
In the first set of the matchup with the Lions, Ouachita would battle back and forth with six ties in the first 15 points. After being tied at 13 all the Tigers would end the frame on a 12-6 run taking the first set. During the run, Low, Camp and Nolly would all have multiple kills.
 
The second set went down to the wire as the largest lead for either team came at the 23-20 mark as there were 13 ties and six lead changes. The Tigers could not close out the Lions who went on a 5-0 run to take the set two victory. History repeated itself in the third set when the Lions would close out the set 4-1 to take the 2-1 set lead over Ouachita.
 
The Tigers did not give up the fight and came out swinging in the fourth set. After capturing the lead at 9-8 they never looked back going on a 7-0 run led by Shannon Hogan and Tabatha Huckabee. Ouachita closed out the set with a 25-20 win on a kill by Huckabee. In the deciding set, the Tigers went down early to Texas A&M Commerce 9-6 before battling back in true Tiger fashion. With the game on the line the Tigers scored three straight points capped off by a Huckabee kill to knock off the ranked Lions.
 
During the second match of the day, the Tigers would start out strong capturing a 25-21 victory in the first set. In the second set Ouachita would grow a lead but not be able to withstand it as the Hilltoppers took the 28-26 victory. The Tigers would then drop the final sets 25-23 and 25-18.
 
Ouachita will be back in action next weekend as the travel to Huntsville, Ala. for the Alabama Huntsville Tournament. On Friday they will square off with Mississippi College at 9:00 a.m. and then Missouri S&T at 3:00 p.m.
