ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Baptist's poor perimeter defense allowed Southeastern Oklahoma State to run away with things 70-46.
The Savage Storm took control of the game late in the first quarter and the Lady Tigers were never able to climb back into things. The ball movement by Southeastern produced numerous open three-pointers. Ouachita struggled on the both ends all night never finding an offensive or defensive groove.
Jessi Bennett and Makayla Miller led the Lady Tigers with 11 points each.
Kamryn Cantwell and Neely Noel both scored 15 for the Savage Storm.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 10-7 lead highlighted by a Jessi Bennett four-point play. It did not take long, though, for Southeastern to wake up and take control of the game. The Savage Storm closed out the first period on an 11-1 run.
Southeastern continued their run as they jumped out to a 14-point lead less than two minutes into the second period. Ouachita shot a higher percentage than Southeastern in the first half but turned it over twice as many times resulting in a nine-point deficit at half.
Southeastern came out of halftime to the tune of 18 straight points. It was not until a Makayla Miller layup with 3:21 to play in the third that Ouachita would score.
Ouachita stumbled to the finish line as they dropped their fifth in a row.
Ouachita fell to 4-13, 1-10 in conference play, while Southeastern Oklahoma State improved to 13-2, 10-1 in conference.
The Lady Tigers return to action Saturday, Jan. 25 at home against East Central University. The game will be at 1 p.m. For all things Lady Tiger Basketball, stay tuned to obutigers.com.
