ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers completed a 13-point comeback against the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers to capture a 90-88 win.
With 25 seconds to play Trey Harris hoisted up a shot and missed, but Kendarious Smith battled for the offensive board and drew a foul. Smith knocked in both free-throws to give the Tigers an 89-86 lead.
At 90-88 with a second left the Rangers hoisted up a prayer, but it didn't fall, and the Tigers completed the comeback home victory.
Two Tigers had huge nights as Trey Harris scored 27 and Kendarious Smith scored 25.
Jaedon Whitfield led Northwestern with 27.
The Tigers started quick on the offensive side as it built a 24-14 lead early in the first half. Above average shooting paired with good defense allowed the Tigers to establish control over the Rangers.
With under five to play the Tiger's 10-point lead evaporated and the Rangers knocked in a corner three to capture its first lead of the game at 33-31.
Despite the great start, the Tigers trailed at halftime 46-35.
Northwestern continued to succeed on the offensive end and held the lead for the majority of the second half. The Tigers surged back, though, to cut the lead to one halfway through the second half.
With 6:28 to play Trey Harris hit two free throws to tie the game at 71. The Tigers would regain the lead on two more free throws by Allie Freeman at 79-78.
In the final minutes the physicality was turned up to another level, but the Tigers were the team to answer the call in a big two-point win.
The Tigers will need a strong run the last week and a half to make the conference tournament.
Ouachita improved to 11-13, 8-11 in conference play while Northwestern Oklahoma State dropped to 8-17, 5-14 in conference.
