Ouachita Baptist kept it close until the very end, but Arkansas-Monticello held off a late Tiger push in an 81-79 game at Bill VIning Arena on Saturday. The Tigers trailed by 10 with 24 seconds to play, but
DJ Kane and
Kendarious Smith combined for 10 points in the final 11 seconds to close the gap. The Boll Weevils were just effective enough from the free throw line down the stretch to render Kane's buzzer-beating three-pointer moot.Â
The Tigers led by three at halftime, but Monticello led for the final 15:33 of the game.Â
Kane reached the free throw line twice for a total of six shots in the final minute of the game as Ouachita tried to even the score late. The Boll Weevils went 6-10 from the free throw line in the final minute of the game and 3-6 in the last 34 seconds.
