ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University men's soccer team played its final home game of the 2021 season on Saturday with Newman coming away with a 5-0 victory.
The Jets (1-13-1, 1-8-1 GAC) scored a pair of goals in the first half. The first came in the 12th minute when Newman drew a foul just inside the box, resulting in what ended up being a successful penalty kick goal from Joao Moreira. Newman later took a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 18th minute.
Newman added three more goals in the second half, finding the net in the 50th minute, the 54th minute, and the 81st minute.
Ouachita (2-11-2, 2-8-1 GAC) ended up with more total shots than the Jets with a 17-15 advantage. Newman held a 6-4 margin in shots on goal.
Saturday's game was the final home for the Tigers this season. Before the game, Ouachita honored its two seniors, Kyle Kelson and Giovanni Chavarri. Kelson is on pace to graduate next December with a degree in history and secondary education with a minor in coaching. Chavarri will graduate this December with a degree in nursing with a focus in oncology.
The Tigers wrap up the season on Thursday, November 4 on the road against Harding.
