ARKADELPHIA – Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team will be back in action this weekend at the Texas A&M-Commerce Hoopsgiving Tournament.
The Tigers (1-2) take on UT-Tyler on Friday, November 26 at 6 p.m. and then the host, A&M-Commerce, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Live streaming broadcasts will be available for each game on a pay-per-view basis. Live stats will also be available. All links can be found at OBUtigers.com/coverage.
TIGER TRACKS
- Ouachita is bringing momentum to Texas following its first win of the 2021-22 season this past Friday at home over Ecclesia College by a final score of 83-59.
- The Tigers have four players in double-digits in scoring: Jacob Street (12.3 ppg), Ma'Darius Hobson (12 ppg), Leon Kalinic (10.7 ppg), and Kendarious Smith (10.5 ppg).
- Leon Kalinic is Ouachita's leading rebounder with a total of 17 for an average of 5.7 per game.
- Leon Kalinic leads the Great American Conference in field goal percentage (.625).
- Jacob Street ranks second in the GAC in three-pointers made per game (3.33).
- Fifth-year senior Kendarious Smith is nine points away from moving into the top 10 all-time at Ouachita in scoring. He joined the Ouachita 1,000-point club last season, and currently ranks 11th with 1,117 career points.
- This is Ouachita's final non-conference road trip of the season. The Tigers have two other non-conference games on the schedule, both at home. The 22-game GAC schedule starts next Thursday, December 2 on the road against Arkansas Tech.
SCOUTING UT-TYLER
- UT-Tyler (3-0) is one of 51 NCAA Division II teams still unbeaten this year. The Patriots have three lop-sided wins, including its most recent outing, a 100-47 victory over Dallas Christian this past Sunday.
- The Patriots lead the nation in scoring margin (+45.3 per game), rank second in the nation in assists (23 per game), and rank fourth in the nation in rebounds (47 per game).
- The Patriots have four players in double-digits in scoring, led by Zaire Mateen and Esyan Wiley at 12.3 points per game each.
- This is the first meeting for Ouachita and UT-Tyler in men's basketball since the 2016-17 season. The Tigers won at home that year by a final score of 76-72.
SCOUTING A&M-COMMERCE
- A&M-Commerce (1-0) has only played one countable game so far this season, a 78-69 win over Fort Valley State at home this past Saturday. The Lions also picked up an exhibition win over NCAA Division I UTSA on November 15 by a final score of 65-62.
- In the win over FVSU, the Lions were led by Jairus Roberson with 24 points in 26 minutes off the bench.
- The Lions play Mississippi College on Friday to open the weekend tournament.
- Ouachita and A&M-Commerce have played four times in the past decade with an even 2-2 record. The home team won each time. Most recently, the Lions won in Commerce in December of 2015 by a final score of 75-63. Only one of the four recent matchups resulting in a double-digit margin.
