COMMERCE, Texas – The Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team closed out its participation in the A&M-Commerce Hoopsgiving Tournament on Saturday with an 86-76 overtime loss to the host.
Saturday's game was a tale of two halves. The Lions (3-0) outscored the Tigers (1-4) by nine in the first half, and the Tigers responded in kind in the final 20 minutes, forcing Ouachita's first overtime game of the year.
A&M-Commerce hit a trio of three-pointers and was a perfect 5-or-5 on free throws in the overtime period, leading to a 16-6 advantage in the extra five minutes and a double-digit victory.
Ma'Darius Hobson led the Tigers in 34 minutes off the bench, and finished with the second-highest point total of his Ouachita career with 27 points. He tied his career-high in made field goals after connecting on 11-of-20 shots. The Houlka, Mississippi native also led the Tigers on the boards with eight rebounds.
Alex Scariolo also turned in a good outing off the bench with 15 points.
Jacob Street chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.
As a team, Ouachita was 30-for-74 from the field (41 percent), 8-for-24 on three-pointers (33 percent), and 8-for-11 on foul shots (73 percent). On the other side, the Lions were 30-for-61 from the field (49 percent), 13-for-28 on three-pointers (46 percent), and 13-for-18 on foul shots (72 percent).
The Tigers open Great American Conference play next Thursday, December 2 on the road against Arkansas Tech.
