CLAREMORE, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team competed in its only non-conference road game of the 2021-22 season on Saturday, resulting in an 82-71 loss to Rogers State.

The Hillcats (4-2) jumped out to an early lead, and held double-digit advantage midway through the first period. Aspen Thornton closed out the first period with a three-pointer with 42 seconds remaining to trim the Tiger deficit to three heading into the second.

RSU put together its best period of the game in the second, outscoring Ouachita 28-13 to hold an 18-point lead at the halftime break.

The Tigers (1-2) made adjustments at halftime and out-performed the HIllcats in the second half, but the RSU surge in the second quarter proved to be too much to overcome. Ouachita cut the deficit down to single digits in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter.

Freshmen Aspen Thornton and Laney Mears tallied their third consecutive double-digit scoring outings, respectively, to start their Tiger careers. The duo tied for the team lead with 17 points. Makayla Miller added 15 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Wright led the Tigers on the boards with nine rebounds.

The Tigers open Great American Conference play next Thursday, December 2 on the road against Arkansas Tech.
