ARKADELPHIA – Ma'Darius Hobson had an all-around productive outing to lead the Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team to a 76-64 exhibition win over Philander Smith on Wednesday at home.
Hobson finished the night 8-for-12 from the field, led all scorers with 19 points, added a game-high seven rebounds, and chipped in with four assists.
He was one of three Tigers to reach double-figures in scoring. Jacob Street scored 17 points, highlighted by an 8-for-9 outing at the free-throw line. Deaveon Bankston added 14 points and four boards in 23 minutes off the bench.
Ouachita led from the tip to the final buzzer, holding as much as a 26-point advantage midway through the second half. The biggest scoring run for the Tigers was 13 consecutive points over a two-minute span late in the first half, aided in part to a trio of technical fouls assessed to the Panther bench.
The Panthers trimmed the Tiger lead to under 20 with 6:52 remaining in regulation, and climbed to within 11 in the final minute due in part to Ouachita turnovers.
Ouachita officially opens the 2021-22 season next weekend with a long road trip north to take on a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
