TIGERS CARRY MOMENTUM TO MAGNOLIA

ARKADELPHIA – Following an exhibition win over Arkansas Baptist College this week, the Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team looks to carry that momentum on the road this Saturday against defending Great American Conference co-champion Southern Arkansas.

This Saturday's game in Magnolia starts at 3 p.m. There will be live stats and live video coverage provided by SAU. Links can be found at OBUtigers.com/coverage.  

TIGER TRACKS

  • Ouachita enters the game with a 1-6 overall record and an 0-2 mark in GAC games.
  • The Tigers played their second and final exhibition game of the season this past Tuesday at home, beating Arkansas Baptist College by a final score of 79-66.
  • Ouachita ranks ninth in the GAC in scoring at 69.4 points per game, while ranking 11th in scoring defense, giving up 79.1.
  • The Tigers rank fourth in the league in free-throw percentage, led by Kendarious Smith, who ranks second in the league having made 18-of-20 foul shots. Overall, Ouachita is shooting 74.5 percent from the line.
  • Ma'Darius Hobson leads the Tigers and ranks fifth in the GAC in scoring with an average of 17.2 points per game. He has reached double-digits in scoring in all but one game this season, and has hit the 20-point mark in two games, including 23 games in last Saturday's game against Harding.
  • Kendarious Smith moved to No. 8 all-time at Ouachita in scoring in last Saturday's game against Harding. He enters the SAU game with a career total of 1,175 points. This season, he is second on the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game.
  • Kendarious Smith is Ouachita's leading rebounder at 4.5 per game.
  • Ma'Darious Hobson and Deaveon Bankston are the team leaders in steals with 11 total each.
  • Larenz Nero leads the Tigers in assists at 2.9 per game.
  • Jacob Street has been Ouachita's top three-point threat this season having made 15-of-43 shots beyond the arc.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS

  • The Muleriders enter Saturday's game with a 5-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in GAC games. Most recently, SAU lost to Henderson State at home last Saturday by a final score of 65-62. That loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Muleriders.
  • SAU was picked to finish second in the GAC this season after winning a share of the GAC Eastern Division Championship last season. The league was broken up into divisions last season due to COVID-19. There are no divisions this season.
  • SAU's win have been big this season. The Muleriders lead the league and rank No. 17 in the nation with a scoring margin of 17.1 points.
  • SAU leads the league and ranks sixth in the nation in turnover margin at +6 per game.
  • Devonate Brooks is SAU's top scorer and rebounder with an average of 17.8 points and nine rebounds per game. He leads the GAC and ranks 15th in the nation in double-doubles this season with a total of 4.
  • Since the creation of the GAC in 2011, SAU holds a 14-10 series advantage over Ouachita. In the last meeting, the Tigers beat SAU 73-59 in Arkadelphia in February of 2021.
