MAGNOLIA, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team lost a Great American Conference game on the road Saturday to Southern Arkansas by a final score of 71-66.
The Tigers (1-7, 0-3 GAC) controlled most of the first half, and held their largest advantage of nine with 7:15 remaining before halftime following an 8-0 run. SAU fought back to trim Ouachita's lead down to three points (33-30) at the halftime break.
SAU (6-3, 2-1 GAC) flipped the script in the second half, outscoring Ouachita 41-34. The Muleriders led by as many as seven points on two different occasions in the final 10 minutes.
Ouachita rallied late to force the game's 11th tie score at 65-all with 2:43 remaining. Tylar Haynes and Alex Scariolo scored four points each in that rally to force the tie. SAU responded with a made basket, while Ouachita had three chances on its next possession to come up with points, but missed on all three. The Muleriders scored on the other end to go up by two possessions, and held the lead throughout the rest of the game.
Kendarious Smith led the Tigers with 16 points. Tylar Haynes finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Alex Scariolo finished with 10 points in 28 minutes off the bench.
