TIGERS HUNTING FIRST GAC WIN SATURDAY

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team hosts defending Great American Conference champion Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday in search of the first league victory of the season.

Saturday's game is set for 3 p.m. inside Bill Vining Arena. The Ouachita Sports Digital Network will broadcast the game live, and live statistics will also be available. Links can be found at www.OBUtigers.com/coverage. General admission tickets will be available upon arrival for $5.  

TIGER TRACKS

  • Ouachita enters the game with a 2-7 overall record and a 0-3 mark in GAC games.
  • The Tigers played their final non-conference game of the season this past Tuesday at home, resulting in a 95-72 victory over Champion Christian. In the win, Ouachita posted season-highs in points (95), field goals made (36), three-pointers made (11), and steals (12).
  • Ouachita ranks sixth in the GAC in scoring (72 points per game) and 11th in points allowed (77.44 per game).
  • The Tigers rank in the top half of the league in free throw percentage (3rd – 75 percent), offensive rebounds (4th – 11.3 per game), steals (4th – 7.3 per game), and fourth in turnovers forced (4th – 14.89 per game).
  • Ma'Darius Hobson is Ouachita's leading scorer and fifth best in the GAC with an average of 16.7 points per game.
  • Hobson is currently second in the GAC in steals at 2.57 per game.
  • Kendarious Smith leads the GAC and ranks 13th in the nation in free throw percentage. He is 25-for-27 from the charity stripe for a percentage of 92.6.
  • Smith is 10 points away from moving up to No. 7 in Ouachita's all-time leading scorers list. He enters Saturday's game with 1,199 career points. Currently in seventh in Jaranimo Marks, who scored 1,208 points at Ouachita from 2005-09.

SCOUTING UAM

  • The Weevils enter Saturday's game with a 6-3 overall record and a 2-1 mark in GAC games.
  • UAM is the defending GAC regular season and tournament champion. However, only one player from last year's team is on the current roster, and the team has a first-year head coach in Chad Tapp, who built a winning program at Lyon College in the previous eight seasons.
  • The Weevils have won their last two games, both at home in the past two Saturdays. UAM beat Arkansas Tech 58-55 on December 4 and Harding 71-57 on December 11.
  • The Weevils have the best scoring defense in the GAC, sixth best in the nation, surrendering just 60.4 points per game. Offensively, UAM is next to last in the league at 68.9 points scored per game.
  • Ray Price is UAM's best player so far this season, leading the team in scoring (13 points per game), assists (3.6 per game), free throws (88.9 percent), and steals (2.11 per game).
  • Since the creation of the GAC in 2011, UAM holds a 13-10 series advantage. UAM won all three matchups last season.
