Bats Break Out As Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader

THE RUNDOWN

Ouachita Baptist baseball put up a season-high 17 runs in the second game of its doubleheader against Harding on Saturday, winning 17-5 in a scheduled seven-inning game. A nine-run fifth helped seal the deal for the Tigers.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first, Ouachita's offense went to work. The Tigers scored four runs in the second, thanks to an RBI single by Simmons Sowell, a two-run single by Tyler Riebock and an RBI single by Cade McBride. CW Schrader doubled home Pierce Mitchum in the third to pad the lead.

The Bisons added two runs in the fourth, but the Tigers used a Cole Kelly single, an error and a Blake Tubbs sacrifice fly to answer with three in the bottom of the frame.

The fifth inning saw nine runs on six Tiger hits. Louis Steen got the party started the painful way, taking a pitch to the left arm with the bases loaded. Two batters later, Kelly cleared the bases with a double. Pierce Mitchum drove in a run with a single. Simmons Sowell drove in a pair with a single before a Harding error allowed two more runs to score.

Beau Burson earned the win on the mound, allowing one hit and one run in 3.2 innings of relief with three strikeouts and two walks.
