Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Advance to Semifinals On Penalties

THE RUNDOWN

No. 2-seeded Ouachita Baptist women's soccer advanced to the semifinals of the Great American Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on penalty kicks after a scoreless 110 minutes with No. 7 Northwestern Oklahoma State. Jaymee Dotson, Gracen Turner, Hope Pennington and Erica Gaddie made their penalty attempts to give the Tigers a 4-2 shootout win.

The Tigers applied pressure in the first half, possessing the ball for 53 percent of the opening period, and keeping the ball out of the Rangers' attacking end. The ball spent less than 10 percent of the first half in Northwestern's attacking end. Ouachita outshot NWOSU 12-1 and put four shots on frame to the Rangers' none, but the score remained deadlocked.

The Rangers turned the tables in the early minutes of the second half, creating danger with three corner kicks in the first five minutes. The Tiger defense was up to the task, turning away chance after chance.

Ouachita put three shots on goal in the second half and one in each overtime period, but could not put one past the keeper. The Tigers' best chance for a goal came in the 62nd minute, when Turner drew a foul in the box to set up Dotson with a penalty attempt. Ranger netminder Reyna Gonzalez stood tall for the save.

After regulation and overtime failed to produce a winner, the Tigers made their first four attempts. A pair of misses doomed the Rangers before a fifth was necessary.
