THE RUNDOWN
Ouachita Baptist and Williams Baptist entered the bottom of the seventh and final inning in a 3-3 deadlock in Game 1 of a doubleheader Tuesday, but
Pierce Mitchum drove in
Louis Steen for the game-winning run with a ground ball to third.Â
The Eagles took an early lead, scoring a run in the first inning and one in the fourth to go up 2-0. With two outs and Mitchum on first in the bottom of the fourth,Â
Jaxon Chaney sent a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to tie the game.
After Williams Baptist regained the lead with a run in the sixth,
Jud Arrington drove in the tying run the painful way, drawing a bases-loaded hit by pitch to tie the game at 3.Â
With one out and runners at second and third in the bottom of the seventh, Mitchum grounded to third. The throw beat Steen to the plate, but the catcher could not hang on to the ball to compete the tag, allowing the Tiger right fielder to touch the plate and end the game.
Cooper Timmons earned the win in relief, allowing just one unearned run across 3.0 innings of relief.
