ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University continued its four-game homestand on Tuesday night with a 69-63 loss to Southern Nazarene.
The Tigers (4-12, 2-8 GAC) had a tough task defending the Crimson Storm (8-5, 3-4 GAC), which spread the ball around with four scorers reaching double figures.
SNU jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead with three consecutive three-pointers in as many possessions to start the game. Ouachita rallied to force a 13-all tie at the 13:35 mark of the first period, and later gained its first lead of the game on a layup from
Tylar Haynes with six minutes remaining to put the Tigers up 22-21. The game went back-and-forth for the rest of the half with neither team leading by more than two.
The Crimson Storm got up early again in the second half with a five-point advantage less than three minutes in. The game later switched momentum in Ouachita's when
Leon Kalinic nailed a three-pointer to put his team up 51-47 with 10:42 to go in regulation. That was Ouachita's largest lead of the game.
Up by three with under two minutes left, SNU sealed the win with a three-pointer with 23 seconds on the clock to produce the final six-point margin.
Both teams shot 48 percent from the field with SNU ending up with one more made field goal than the Tigers.
Tylar Haynes led all scorers with 17 points on a 7-for-10 shooting performance.
Ma'Darius Hobson added 12 points.
T'vondrick Henry,
Alex Scariolo, and
Leon Kalinic all ended the night just one point shy of double-digits. Scariolo led the Tigers in rebounds with six.
