STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Ouachita Men's Basketball dropped its exhibition game against the Cowboys of Oklahoma State by a score of 85-51 Thursday night.
This is the first of two exhibition games against Division I opponents the Tigers will be playing in this season.
It was a combination of returning and fresh faces, as two of the Tigers' starting five were new transfers to the program, both of whom showed out early.
Ouachita initially led 4-2 over the Cowboys after a couple of steals and quick baskets from Reggie Martin and LaQuan Butler Jr. to start the game, but after that, OSU took over and controlled the rest of the game.
Butler was the top Tiger on the floor tonight, leading in points, rebounds, assists and steals in an impressive Ouachita debut.
Butler put up nine points to lead Ouachita, followed by Reggie Martin and
Alex Scariolo who each had six.
In rebounding, Butler had four, Scariolo and
Tylar Haynes each had three.
Butler also shared the ball tonight, dishing out four assists, good for the most of all passers. Scariolo was next with two of his own.
The best category for Ouachita was steals. They out stole the Cowboys 13 to 11. Butler led with five, which led both teams.
Ma'Darius Hobson was right behind, snagging four steals of his own. Haynes was next with two.
Ouachita also held onto the ball better than OSU, turning the ball over 17 times compared to the Cowboy's 18.
Every member of the Tiger squad was able to get in some playing time in the contest, with 21 of the Tigers' 51 points coming from off the bench.
The Tigers will take on their next Divison I opponent in the Northwestern State Demons on Thursday, November 10 at noon in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
