ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team lost a Great American Conference home game to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday by a final score of 79-70.
Tylar Haynes led the Tigers with his second straight double-double, and fourth of the season, with 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. He was 8-for-16 from the field and 5-for-7 at the foul line.
Three others reached double-digits for the Tigers in scoring. Jacob Street had 14 points, Alex Scariolo had 13, and Kobe Dunlap had a career-high 11 points. It was Dunlap's first career double-digit scoring performance.
Ouachita got out to a fast start on Saturday, going up 6-0 in the first two minutes. The Tigers later led by as many as seven in the first half, before giving way to the Bulldogs with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Ouachita forced three tie scores in the final nine minutes of the first half, but never could regain the lead, trailing by one at 34-33 at halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers took back the lead on a jumper by Alex Scariolo at the 12:45 mark to put his team up 47-46. SWOSU later went on an 8-0 run to get up by double-digits with eight minutes remaining. Ouachita cut it down to six with 2:41 remaining, but the Bulldogs were able to answer to keep cushion between themselves and the Tigers.
Ouachita hits the road next week with games at East Central on Thursday, February 17, and then at Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
