ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team finished the 2021-22 season on a high note on Saturday with an 89-54 road win over Arkansas-Monticello.
The Tigers (10-16, 8-14 GAC) completed the season sweep over the Blossoms (0-28, 0-22 GAC) in convincing fashion with their largest margin of victory in conference games. It was also Ouachita's second straight road win.
Both teams struggled to find the net in the first period, with Ouachita shooting 33 percent from the field and outscoring UAM 16-8. The Tigers caught fire in the second, shooting 67 percent from the field (12-for-18) to hold a 26-point lead of 44-18 at the break.
Ouachita was even more efficient in the third period, shooting 69 percent (11-for-16) which led to the its largest lead of the game at 44 late in the period. UAM outscored Ouachita 21-16 in the fourth.
Aspen Thornton capped her impressive freshman campaign with 33 points in the win over UAM. Lauren Wright capped her Ouachita career with a career-high 17 points on Saturday, highlighted by four made three-pointers. Laney Mears added 12 points, and Makayla Miller had 11. Miller and Claudia Vanzant led the Tigers in rebounds with six each.
With the season coming to an end, a pair of Ouachita freshman have inked their names at the top of a couple categories in the school record book.
	- Aspen Thornton set a new single-season school record for points per game (23.4).
 
	- Aspen Thornton tied a single-season school record for total points in a season (608).
 
	- Laney Mears tied the single-season school record for three-pointers made (65).
 
Other notable updates to the record book include:
	- Makayla Miller ranks ninth all-time at Ouachita for points per game (12.6).
 
	- Makayla Miller ranks ninth all-time at Ouachita in career assists (230).
 
	- Makayla Miller ranks fifth all-time at Ouachita in career assists per game (3.7).
 
	- Lauren Wright ranks sixth all-time at Ouachita in career rebounds per game (6.0).
